Ensuring dignified livelihood for the underprivileged youth in New Delhi
Sangam Vihar is one of the most densely populated localities in New Delhi. Mostly migrant workers and landless labourers, the dwellers work as rickshaw pullers, rag pickers, low-profile workers in factories/construction sites, roadside vendors and/or domestic workers for living. Owing to insufficient educational facilities and also lack of financial resources, the number of out of school children and dropout students in the area are high.
To address the grim situation and help these people come out of the poverty cycle, Smile Twin e-Learning Programme is being implemented in the area. Under the project, youth from within the communities are identified through surveys and are enrolled for a six-monthly job-oriented training. Post training, the candidates are placed in the fast expanding retail, hospitality and BPO sectors.
During the six months training, the candidates are trained on English Proficiency, Basic Computer Education and Soft Skills. Besides the usual training, Employee Engagement, Exposure Visits, Career Counselling and Job Placement Support form important features of the project.
Smile Foundation has partnered with Kalyanam for implementation of this STeP project.
