Shristi, age 10 studies in class 4 of a Mission Education centre run by Smile Foundation. Her mother is a house wife and her father is self-employed. After Shristi’s father lost his job in the city he moved to the village with his family to become a farmer but agriculture is dependent on season and most of the times crops fall prey to insects and bad weather. Hence the income of the household keeps fluctuating. There are times when the children do not have enough to eat and this affects their studies.
After Shristi was enrolled in the Mission education centre she along with her family was very happy because of the nutritious food that as provided in the centre. She says, "The food served at the center is tasty and the best thing is that each day we get new dish, sambhar tastes very good and all our friends love the food here. It has helped me and my friends to get more nutrition. I can now concentrate more on my studies because I am full and have a lot of energy. It is also helping those who are from poor background."
The nutrition programme supported by HNF has made it possible for many like Shristi to attend school regularly and benefit from the nutrition support.
