Ericsson India Pvt. Ltd. supports livelihood programme for youth
Ericsson India Pvt. Ltd. has joined hands with Smile Foundation to support 20 new Smile Twin-e Learning Centers across Delhi/NCR and Mumbai. Ericsson provides services, software and infrastructure - especially in mobility, broadband and the cloud - which enables the communications industry and other sectors to do better business, increase efficiency, improve their users' experience and capture new opportunities.
Under its purview of CSR, Ericsson has a special initiative called Connect to Learn, within which it implements Information and Communications technology (ICT) in schools in resource poor settings, to ensure that children, no matter where they live, have access to learning resources and a quality education. In line with their vision of education for everyone, the program seeks to provide opportunities to youth to access learning resources that were previously unavailable to them. Within this initiative, in view of the growing numbers of unemployed youth in India, Ericsson is seeking to create employment opportunities for underprivileged youth.
Ericsson has partnered with Smile Foundation to offer job-oriented skills and placement assistance to underprivileged youth in Delhi/National Capital Region (NCR) and Mumbai. This program imparts training in basic computers and retail sales management skills, along with proficiency in spoken and written English through 20 centers being set up in Delhi/NCR and Mumbai. The curriculum also includes sessions on personal development, career counselling and placement support.
Smile Twin e- Learning Programme is an initiative of Smile Foundation that has been working with a bifocal approach, for the sustainable development and economic upliftment of underprivileged youth. Initiated in the year 2007, the programme aims to impart employability skills to the youth from marginalized communities and helps them to attain a basic quality of life and work towards a dignified future. It provides an avenue to the underprivileged youth to access high quality professional training and enables them to live a sustainable life with dignity. It not only provides knowledge base, but also boosts the confidence level of these youth as well as their families.
