Ericsson Global Pvt. Ltd. and Smile Foundation to tackle healthcare challenges and support empowerment of youth
Ericsson Global has been a Smile Foundation partner since 2015, supporting Smile on Wheels (mobile medical Units) in five locations Noida, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune. So far through the partnership 240863 people have been directly benefitted, out of which more than 50% of the beneficiaries were women and children. Keeping in mind the need for necessary healthcare services for the poor and underserved during the pandemic Ericson will continue its support for the current year in all locations and will also complement the government in collecting Covid testing samples for designated labs in two locations; Chennai and Pune.
Ericsson also supports Smile Twin e-Learning programme which offers job-oriented skills and placement assistance to underprivileged youth. This program imparts training in basic computers and retail sales management skills, along with proficiency in spoken and written English. So far, in the last five years more than 6000 youth have been placed and more than 10,000 youth have been trained through 30 centers in Delhi/NCR, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai.
As the demand of no. of healthcare professional is increasing, through this collaboration, Ericsson and Smile Foundation also aim to skill more than 5,000 youth in the age group of 18-30 years, preferably women as healthcare professionals in the categories of General Duty Assistant and Bed-side Assistant through 40 STeP Centers in Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Pune and Kolkata.
Subhankar belongs to a middle class family. His father who works in a shop selling beetle nuts has to struggle to make two ends meet. From a very young age Subhankar had seen many hardships. After completing his higher secondary studies, he wanted to continue his education but due to the financial condition of his family it proved very difficult for Subhankar to continue his studies. He began to drive a cab to help his father but it was difficult for him to keep up with his profession and his studies.
After a mobilization process conducted by STeP Subhankar decided to enroll in the programme and after the successful completion of his course joined SWIGGY as a delivery boy. Subhankar is an inspiration to many as he continued with his higher studies and can very well juggle his job and studies. He is an excellent student and has big dreams he is going to fulfill soon.
