Helping the youth of Budge Budge bring a change in the society
Budge Budge is a suburb area, located around 30 km away from the metropolitan city of Kolkata. Its population mainly comprises minority groups including Muslims and Scheduled Castes, and most of them are land-less marginal farmers surviving on Agriculture. Owing to poor financial conditions of families and less employment opportunities in the area, a large number of youth in Budge Budge are drop outs and engaged in contractual or casual labor work, or even unsolicited activities.
The objective of this project is to help these young people break this vicious cycle and become change agents in the society through skill-based education. In order to achieve this, students are provided training in a wide array of subjects, keeping in mind the industry requirements and demands. The training module comprises Basic Computers, Spoken English, Personality Development, Tally 9, Retail & Basic Management and Health Education, all taught over a duration of six months.
Several activities are also conducted during this course for overall development of students. These include Mobilization, Training, Exposure Visits, Mock Interviews, On Job Training, Employment Exchange Program and Placements. On an average, 52% of the beneficiaries are placed per session in different growing sectors.
