Success Stories


Lala Manji Butiya, 19 years old, stays at Nagpada, Mumbai Central. He lives in a joint family that consists of his own siblings and cousin brothers and sisters. All of them are younger than him, and Lala singly shoulders the entire responsibility of the family. He was badly in need of a job but because of his poor communication skill he was being unable to get one. This was when he met one of his friends who was doing this STeP course. He visited the office with this friend and got all the information about the course and decided to enroll himself. On completion of the course he was interviewed by various employers and finally got selected at Westside. He is a very hard working boy and has already earned an increment for his excellent performance in less than 6 months.

Roshni Hanmant Marathe, 23 years old, comes from a small village in Maharashtra. Her father is a mason and her mother is a housewife. She has an elder sister who has been married off. They had great difficulty in her marriage because of the poor financial condition of the family. After her sister’s marriage, Roshni along with her father, had to come to Mumbai to find a job so that she could support her father in earning a decent living for the family. Despite being an Arts Graduate, Roshni could not get a good job, because of the lack of communication skills. This was when she got to know about the STeP course from her aunt and enrolled herself. On completion of the course, she was taken for a placement at McDonalds in Bandra. She was interviewed for the cashier’s post here and was selected for the job. She is now very happy with the job and is being able to fulfil the needs of her family.

100% Placement at STeP Centre in Jhansi

One of the STeP centres at St. Paul’s Charitable Trust, Jhansi, has been successful in placing all its students. The students have found jobs in places like Tata Indicom, Reliance Mobile, Life Line Hospital and the Registrar Office. The various employment engagement activities organized for the students at the centre helped to develop their soft skills and added significantly to their personality development. The career counselling sessions also were very helpful for the students to perform well during the job interviews. This is for the second time that this centre has achieved a record of 100% placement.

Financial Literacy
Programme launched

Smile Foundation in association with Sanchayan Society launched a financial literacy project – Sanchayan Financial Literacy Programme, for the underprivileged youth to facilitate their financial inclusion and teach them the optimum utilization of available financial instruments.

This programme was launched on August 28, 2010, by an electrifying music performance by Pratham. With the use of Indian folk and classical instruments, the band got everyone enthused. The Sanchayan Financial Literacy Programme has received international recognition from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as a part of the financial literacy initiatives undertaken in India. The only other financial literacy initiatives in the country have been taken by RBI and SEBI.

STeP Trainers
get special soft skill training

A workshop for the Training of STeP Trainers in Soft Skills was conducted by Brit World Wide in New Delhi. Trainers from various STeP centres of New Delhi and NCR had come for this workshop. The session commenced with a discussion on keeping the Right Attitude and Self Esteem. This was followed by a Daily Action Plan for Self Development. All the participation trainers shared their success stories and put forward their own plans of achieving objectives in their own lives. Games and activities were conducted to develop interpersonal skills and goal setting. The workshop also included a discussion on presentation making skills.

 

Exposure visits for students

STeP students in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata were taken for Exposure visits in McDonalds, Westside, Apollo Pharmacy and Kreeda Media Solutions. The students received a very warm welcome from the staff of all the organizations. The students had great fun learning practically, whatever they are taught in theory. These visits help the students in exploring new opportunities and getting to know about the operational details of all the industries.
