Dr. Kiran Bedi in support of Swabhiman Role Models
Dr. Kiran Bedi, Magsaysay Award winner icon of women empowerment, celebrated International Women’s Day with Role Models from Swabhiman programme at her residence in New Delhi.
The select eight role models were ordinary community girls who have set extra-ordinary examples through Swabhiman, a programme on empowerment of girl children from Smile Foundation.
Reena, Rubina, Babita, Sona, Kiran, Chandrakala, Sameera and Sunita, are just eight of the many trained catalysts of Swabhiman programme who in their teens, have achieved the status of ‘role models’ in their communities. They are being trained to be ‘change makers’ in future.
Dr. Kiran Bedi interacted, advised and shared experiences with the eight Swabhimaan role models, giving them tips on how to lead other girls and women in their respective communities. She also stressed that the root cause of all problems faced by women can be solved if they become economically self dependant. Dr. Bedi advised Smile Foundation to further strengthen its efforts of providing social security aids and training to women and girls.
