Yuva English for young India
There are millions in the country
who are deprived of their rights because they do not understand
English,” said Mr.Vinod Khanna of Tech Mahindra Foundation
while emphasising on the need to promote English among youth during
a workshop organised at India Social Institute, New
Delhi from October 5 to October
8, 2009.
Tech Mahindra Foundation organised
a workshop to train NGOs in Yuva English, a specialised course designed
by the Centre for Learning Resources, Pune for less privileged youth.
Instructors from Smile Foundation’s
Smile Twin e-Learning Programme and representatives from many other
development organisations attended the workshop.
It may be mentioned that through
the Smile Twin e-Learning Programme, Smile Foundation trains underprivileged
youth in basic computers and English language. The Foundation has
joined hands with Tech Mahindra Foundation for the setting up of
Smile Twin e-Leaning Programme centres in different cities of the
country.
The Yuva English curriculum
has been designed after an extensive one year field research. Through
the course, basic knowledge of communicating in English is imparted
to the youth.
Speaking during the workshop,
Dr. John Kurrien, CLR said, “The curriculum Yuva English is
based on simple but important aspects like reading, speaking and
listening, which is easy understandable. |
