Every Child Has the Right to Smile –
Kids Wish Team India for Cricket World Cup

In the midst of high excitement for World Cup 2007 all around, the Children of Smile Foundation cheered for Team India, sending them their best wishes starting with the inaugural match against Bangladesh.

Smile Foundation, as part of its ongoing Campaign “Every Child Has the Right to Smile,” initiated a signature campaign wherein the cricket crazy beneficiaries from Smile projects shared a platform with common citizens in cheering the Indian Cricket Team for the World Cup 2007. The venue being, Dilli Haat, New Delhi, their message for the Indian Cricket Team is “Second to none, bring home the Cup.“

Mr. Kirti Azad, former Indian cricket player and member of 1983 World Cup Winning Team, inaugurated the Campaign by giving his best wishes and spearheading the campaign by signing on a specially designed cricket bat.

“I thank Smile for having conceptualized this unique idea to bring these kids on this platform. I assure these children that if Indian cricket team won the world cup, then I’ll definitely make them to meet our children,” said Mr. Kirti Azad.

After Mr. Azad initiated the programme, all the children present signed the bat giving their best wishes to Indian Cricket Team. Mr. Azad also presented an autographed bat to all children present who were ecstatic to receive them.

Once the signing was over, the children got to witness the art of making Terracotta pots. Some even tried their hands on turning the wheel and make signature pieces to take back home. The shapes out of the potter’s wheel made it clear that one day some of these kids may turn into abstract artists shaping their own future. It was however a joy to see the children getting their hands dirty.

“This three day event is a part of Smile’s ongoing endeavour to encourage and mainstream underprivileged children, presenting them with opportunities to experience the side of life and society unknown to them”, elucidated Mr. K K Varma, Chief (Project & Partnerships) Smile Foundation.

The Signature Campaign in Dilli Haat was synonymous to the ongoing programmes that Smile takes during the year to give the best possible exposures and opportunities to its children. Recently, Smile children had visited various Radio & TV stations and went on air. In addition, they used to visit malls, theme parks, printing press, corporate offices etc on exposure visits. Smile has also been organizing personality development workshops for its budding children who have been on the road to empowerment.

The Programmes rightfully try to realize the objective with which Smile works i.e., of ‘Bringing a Smile to every child’s face!’
