Canara Bank supports SMILE in Health Initiative

Canara Bank, Mumbai has joined hands with Smile Foundation by supporting health camps under ‘Health with Smile’ programme. The programme extends medical and health care support to poor and needy population residing in slums and JJ clusters who cannot afford it otherwise. The first diagnostic and referral health camp of the series was organized in Mumbai’s Dharavi slum clusters, which is the largest slum in Asia.

Under the initiative, a series of health camps would be organized in slum clusters of Mumbai. The Dharavi health camp was organized on 18th November 2007 from 9.30 am to 5pm. Doctors associated with Smile Foundation and volunteers from Smile’s initiative, ‘Jan Shiksha Sanstha’ along with some senior officers of Canara Bank (Mumbai and Thane branches) were present at the camp.

Canara Bank General Manager (Mumbai & Thane) Mr. P.N. Murthy lighted the lamp and inaugurated the programme. Canara Bank D.G.M. Mrs. Asha Raman, Mr. K. N. Acharya, Mr. V. B. Shenoy, Mr. Pillai and other staffs of Canara Bank participated in the health initiative.

Mr. Murthy thanked the young doctors associated with Smile Foundation for their dedication. The doctors were Dr. Sudarshan Metkar, Dr. Dattatrya Khot and Dr. Shrutika Jadhav.

Over 200 people, mostly needy children and women, from the slums of Dharavi benefited from the camp.
