A multidisciplinary health check-up camp was organised for 125 Smile Children in a Kolkata project named Schools of the World.

Canara Bank sponsored this periodic health initiative, which is organised for all children in Smile’s ‘Mission Education’ projects across India round the year. The project is situated at Joyjeet Das Memorial School, beside Navina Cinema Hall at Anwarshah Road, Kolkata in West Bengal.

The health camp included an inauguration ceremony followed by general health check-up of 125 children along with their blood-grouping test. Each child has been issued a health card stating the age and blood-group of the child and some prescribed medicines.

This is the second among a series of Health with Smile camps that Canara Bank has supported. Canara Bank, Bangalore had sponsored the last camp.

It was a moment of joy, not only for Smile kolkata team but also for Smile children to see the ‘Smile on Wheels’ van, a mobile hospital launched by Smile Foundation in partnership with Kolkata Police in the city recently.

Mr. K.M. Mishra, Divisional Manager, Canara Bank, Kolkata was the Chief Guest on the occasion held on January 31, 2008, 9:30 AM onwards.

Mr. Partha Roy, Dy. Director, Smile Foundation, Kolkata; Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Medical Officer, Kolkata Police; Mr. Swetabuddin Khombekar, Local Councilor and Mr. Gautam Banerji, District Committee Member were among those present throughout the health programme.

Doctors from Bhagirathi Neotia and Dr. Gupta of Smile on Wheels project gave the necessary medical support. According to them, most of these children are suffering from malnutrition and stomach problems, which would be eradicated through this regular intevention.
