A training programme for IT Instructors

Smile Foundation organised a two-day training programme for the IT instructors of Smile Twin e-Learning Programme (STeP).

The workshop organised in Delhi on August 20 and 21, 2009 focused on upgrading the skills of the IT instructors on the Microsoft Unlimited Potential (MSUP) Curriculum for effective dissemination among the students.

The instructors were given training on the two modules of the curriculum - Digital Media Fundamentals and Web Design Fundamentals.

A total of 10 instructors from Delhi, Chandigarh and Bhopal attended the training programme.

The training began with an ‘orientation session on MSUP curriculum’ in which they were briefed on various components of the curriculum like certification, duration, lesson plan, quick quiz, instructors manual, student’s evaluation form, instructors’ evaluation form etc. They were also informed about the Community Based Technology Learning Centre.

A ‘role play’ of the orientation session was done with the instructor’s so as to ensure that every one understood it.

A ‘mock session’ was also conducted to analyse the instructor’s teaching aptitude and thereafter the instructor’s were advised on how to further improve it.

The first day of the training programme ended with ‘learning from the mock session’, which implied that the process of delivering IT knowledge should be in reverse order. The instructor’s were asked to impart practical knowledge to the students first and get into the theory later. They were advised to use computers instead of blackboards.

All the instructor’s were asked to make best use of the resource material given to upgrade their skills. HTML, formatting tags and creating web page through notepads along with many other information was provided to them.

The second day of the training session focussed on giving basic information to the instructors on film making and digital photography. The Rule of 1/3rd in photography was taught to instructors. The instructor’s found it very useful. They were also told about the various parts of the camera, as well as formatting of still and video pictures etc.

The trainer also taught the instructor’s how to edit pictures in Microsoft Office Picture Manager which was the most interesting part as each participant first made their own video and then learnt to edit it according to their choice.

Lessons on use of Adobe Photoshop and the difference between Transition and Effects in videos were also imparted to the instructors. The programme ended with a feedback session.
