Smile
Foundation partnered with IIT, New Delhi, for their annual event,
Speranza this year. The theme chosen for the fest was “sex-education”
and “drug – de addiction”. The Students Welfare
Board of IIT formed a core committee who coordinated with Swabhiman
– the girl child and women empowerment team of Smile, for
the plan of the events. A series of workshops, street plays and
mime shows were planned to sensitize the college youth during the
fest.
Dr. Aruna Mukim, Member –
Film Censor Board and Ms. Reeta Dutta, Chief Public Prosecutor –
Tees Hazari Court were invited as special guests for the event.
Both the guests shared their experiences and views on the subjects
of “sex –education” and “drug-deaddiction”.
Both the guests during the event addressed the specific queries
of the students. The students were quite thrilled to see the mime
shows and street plays which quite effectively conveyed the message
that how youngsters falling into bad company become vulnerable to
drug addiction. Swabhiman had invited Mahak group to guide its community
workers and educators to perform a mime show on the chosen theme.
The
workshop sessions were attended by more than 400 students. The event
also included a special screening of film Juno adhering to the theme
of sex-education. The students were quite keen on the intervention
and focus areas of Smile Foundation. This association marked the
beginning of Smile’s relationship with IIT and their joint
efforts towards the development of children and women.
