The Founders

A group of seven individuals mostly from social work background came together to form People’s Rural Education Movement (PREM). Jacob Thundyil and Susila are associated with PREM as President and Vice President of the organization respectively, whereas Chacko Paruvanany, another founding member is Secretary-cum- Treasurer with PREM. G.John, T.S.Baby, . M.Nageswar Rao are the other members of the board.

About the organisation

People’s Rural Education Movement (PREM) is an humanitarian, non-political, secular, voluntary organization working in Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu for the past two decades.

PREM, with its network partnership of 152 independent voluntary and people’s organizations, reaches more than 5,000,000 people in 23 districts of Orissa through various developmental programmes and campaigns.

Current Programmes at PREM

Promotion of self governance in tribal area: It covers 1700 tribal villages in 5 districts of Orissa on the issues of governance and monitoring, proper implementations of MGNREGS, FRA, PDS, Social and food security programmes of the government.

Child Centered Community Development: There are around 500 EECD centers in the states of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Chhatisgarh.

Edu-Leadership Programs: This is about promotion and governance of education program by the community in 99 villages of Padampur block of Rayagada districts in Orissa.
Promotion of Micro insurance and social security: This programme is about registration of labourers in district labour office to get social security benefits.

Integrated Child Development Program: The Integrated Child Development Program in around 333 villages of Gajapati and 250 villages of Puri districts of Orissa with the sponsorship program and support of Plan International. This program covers education of children, health, livelihood, SHG, water environment & sanitation, governance, vocational education and habitat programs for the communities.
