Cultivating young minds of Ayyapakkam Village
Smile Foundation has tied up with Iniya Udaiyam Charitable Trust for
its Mission Education programme at Ayyapakkam village, Avadi, Chennai,
Tamil Nadu. Besides providing basic schooling to the children, the project
also takes care of the health needs of the disadvantaged children and
imparts them vocational education.
About the project
Value Based Supplementary Education (VBSE) is a project of Iniya Udaiyam Charitable Trust at Ayyapakkam village, Avadi, Tamil Nadu. Through the programme, children of construction workers, auto drivers, vegetable vendors, fish vendors and farmers of Konambedu, Reddipalayam, Annanur, Narayanapuram and Ayyapakkam villages are provided basic education and healthcare facilities. Many of the students here are from the first generation in the family to go to school and so the parents are indifferent towards their education. Thus special effort is made to motivate the parents to educate their children. Coaching classes on individual subjects, computers, communication techniques, health and hygiene, personality development and fine arts are the other aspects that the project highlights on. With the goal to empower underprivileged children and make them self-reliant, healthy and confident, value based and quality education is being imparted to the children wherein they get the opportunity to exhibit their inner talents.Examinations and training programmes are conducted on a regular basis. Health and hygiene of the children is also taken special care of at the centre. The Trust also garners funds from Wheels India limited and Confederation of Indian Organization Service and Advocacy (CIOSA) for running the project.
Target group: Underprivileged children in the age group of 5 to 16 years
