Number of beneficiaries at present : 120

Smile Foundation and Health and Care Society have taken their joint commitment for the welfare of under-privileged children in south Delhi slums of Dhaula Kuan. The endeavour, which was initiated last year, was given a renewed boost this year after getting encouraging results.

About the Partner

Health and Care Society, a registered NGO, came into existence in 1997. Started by a lady with golden heart, Dr. Ira Dash Rajguru, who decided to take care of hundreds of deprived children (born to poor parents) rather than raising children herself! Of course, born to a rich father and married to a senior executive working with a large multi-national Company, both, has been a distinctly positive influence with catalytic effect on the Lady in pursuing matter close to her heart. The money was solely contributed from her personal earnings from the high-profile job she holds in a multi-national IT Company as Advisor-Human Resource for South East Asia.

Health and Care Society works in the areas of Child Education, Health Care, Environment, Women Empowerment and Vocational Training.

About the Project

The integrated project titled ‘Education, Health & Nutrition Support Programme’ caters to about 100 deprived yet needy children with the project site functioning in two shifts a day. The project situated at Shri Ram Slum Camp in Dhaula Kuan, south of Delhi, had starting with a dozen children initially. One shift in the morning is for small children who are under pre-school education. These children are taught basic education and efforts are made for their enrollment in the government schools at the later stage. In the second shift in the afternoon, children from junior classes who are school-goers come for assistance in their studies. Also those children found weak in morning (batch) class come for extra help and attention so that they could cope up and compete with others. During this period, children are also helped in completing their homework. Efforts are also made to motivate children and their parents to continue schooling.

NFE Centre

The Non-Formal Education (NFE) Center covers around 30-40 non-school going children, providing Basic Education between class I – III.

Remedial Education Centre

The Remedial Education Centre covers around 20-25 school-going children from class IV onwards. Subjects covered include English, Hindi, Maths and Moral Science.
