Smile Foundation along with Amcha Ghar based in Uttan village, Bhayander, Thane, Maharashtra has taken an initiative to empower destitute girls through education programme and help them empower themselves to live a better and dignified life.

The Project

The project ‘Empowerment of Destitute Girls through Education in Uttan’

aims to provide basic educational and residential facilities to around 36 girl children at the Amcha Ghar, the project site. The educational curriculum, besides providing the regular academic requirements, gives the opportunity for the girls to explore their extra curricular talents, in fields like music and singing. Training on English language as well as personality development has been incorporated for the girls to be groomed and enhance their overall personality. The project caters to girls between 3 and 17 years of age, providing them with basic educational facilities essential to their upbringing.

About the Partner

Smile Foundation’s partner organization for the project, Amcha Ghar is based in Uttan village which is around 7 kms away from Bhayander in Thane, Maharashtra. In Uttan village, it runs an English Medium Residential cum Educational School which houses around 30 destitute and homeless girls. Through its English Medium School for the girls, the organization provides education to the children in nearby areas along with the existing resident girls.

Desired Impact of the Project

The project aims to fulfill the following objectives during its implementation tenure:

  • To provide all the destitute and poor girls with basic educational facilities essential for the positive growth
  • To provide the girl children with food and lodging facilities to cater to their everyday nutritional and residential needs
  • To introduce them to extracurricular activities for bringing the best among the girl children and help them to develop their skills
  • To help enable the girls live a dignified and self reliant life.
