Aarohan was going forward with full dedication and honesty to achieve its aim of attaining 100% literacy. But we had to keep facing many huddles on our journey. After Smile's strong and trusted support we are achieving sound results much faster. Today whatever success comes our way must be credited not only to Aarohan but also Smile that has now firmly held our hand. Smile gives us the needful guidance as well as the help to sustain this challenging journey.

About the partner

'Aarohan began it;s journey in 2004. ‘Aarohan’ aims to provide financial services to the socio-economically deprived sections of our society and enabling them to attain a better quality of life. This in turn helps them earn an attractive return on capital for its investors.

The organisation covers areas that are surrounded by slums dwellings like in areas of Jagadamba Camp (Sheikh Sarai), Balmiki Camp, Chirag Delhi in the capital city of India. People living here are mainly migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. They have shifted here in search of their livelihoods. Projects

There are a number of Projects supported by ‘Aarohan’. They are mentioned below:

Project Asha

Project ‘Asha’ is dedicated towards education for the primary level kids who do not attend school. Through this project the children are prepared to take entrance tests for standard I to V and are given assistance in the admission process.

Every Year approximately 150 children are supported and helped in getting admission in mainstream school. Majority of these children come from slum-dwelling families who live below the poverty line and their home environment does not provide them with the academic preparation that is needed.

The project provides quality training and ensures that they enter a class that corresponds to their abilities. These children cope better and are less likely to be drop-outs in the future. The drop outs are provided with academic support and encouragement to return to mainstream schooling.

Jagdamba Nursery

This project emphasises on providing physical, secure and hygienic learning environment for underprivileged children between the age group of 3-5 years. It imparts basic cognitive skills and teaches them the social decorum, which they are not able to receive due to the absence of parental care in their early childhood.

The parents are encouraged and motivated to send their children to school. It is a stepping stone for children to enter into school. It is an icon Project of ‘Aarohan’ through which the organisation is able to understand the community and their needs more closely as the Nursery is located in the community itself.

Primary Academic Support System (PASS) Project

The main objective of PASS is to provide after school tuition for class VI to VIII (Secondary stage) students. These are children who have either passed from the PASS project or are from the Asha Project. Children are given guidance to prepare their course-work, homework and special attention is provided in the subjects where they need support.

The emphasis of the project lies in providing children with follow-up academics. This helps them to cope with the high standards in academics and ensures a solid foundation for their secondary education. This project targets on developing confidence and self esteem in a child. There are around 150 children enrolled in this project.

Ambassador of Hope Project

It is the project designed for kids of standard IX and X, where professional guidance is given by trained and professional teachers of Science and Maths to the students as they require additional attention to choose their specialised subjects in higher secondary and college. The project aims to create a conducive environment so that the students feel secure. ‘Aarohan’ provides them a platform to cope up with all these problems through counselling, sharing and making them more responsible towards their studies. There are approximately 50 children enrolled in this project.
