Smile foundation, spreading its grassroots
initiatives in the deprived pockets of Orissa, has partnered
with Jana Sewak Sangha in Bolangir district. The project
is providing free education to poor children from the
underprivileged section of the society. The intervention
is designed to provide remedial education to needy children
and improve their performance in studies
About the Partner
Jana Sewak Sangha (JSS) is a registered
non profit organization. The organization has been able
to garner considerable support from the community and
since the beginning has been able to raise financial support
through feasible activities suiting their resources and
local interest. Involvement of local communities in society
building has made its efforts successful.
The Project
The Remedial Education Project for Children
targets to cover approximately 1100 children in 4 villages
in Bolangir district of Orissa. Health care support programme
for the children has also been incorporated in the project.
Special Teaching and Learning materials,
stationery, proper uniform and play materials are provided
to the poor children. Extra curricular activities and
personality building modules will ensure holistic development
of the children.
All the children health check-up programme
which also include growth monitoring.
The important components of the project are -
• 30% of children are to be mainstreamed
to formal school in appropriate class during the year
• 40% of children to be facilitated in joining back
school in appropriate class
Special Focus
• Provide children with Teaching
and Learning materials, stationery, uniform, play materials
etc
• To organize extra curricular activities for the
children.
• Parents’ counseling has been a part of the
initiative.
