The Founders
With an objective to bring the voluntary organisations
involved in the community health and development activities across the
globe under one platform, Fr. .James Tong established the organisation
Coordinating Agency for Health Planning (CAHP) in 1972 which was later
named as the Voluntary Health Organisation in India Likewise, at state
level different units were also being formed. In Orissa, after a consultation
amongst the leading community health personnel, Orissa Voluntary Health
Association (OVHA) was established in Berhampur on 6 December 1974 to
provide better healthcare facilities to the underprivileged communities
in Orrisa and also work for their overall development.
About the organisation
Orissa Voluntary Health Association (OVHA)
is a leading health association and a secular,non-politics and non-profit
making federation registered under Societies Registration Act of 1860
(Act XXI) in the state of Orissa. OVHA works with policy makers, planners,
academics and health professionals for the betterment of the underprivileged
communities in Orrisa. The organisation works in collaboration with
government bodies and other regional, national and international organisations
to strengthen the welfare activities that include education and better
healthcare facilities.
Association with Smile Foundation
Orissa Voluntary Health Association in
association with Smile Foundation runs Smile Twin e- Learning Programme
to provide professional skills in the area of basic computer training,
English speaking and personality development to increase the prospects
of employment for the underprivileged youth in Orissa.
Stories of Hope
Tapaswani Kumar Mohapatra belongs to a
poor family from Orrisa. Her father is worshipper and being the only
earning member of the family, he is not able to meet all the expenses.
After completing her graduation, Tapaswani was in search of a job to
meet the family expenses. But because of lack of knowledge in computers
knowledge she was not able to get a good job. At this point, she came
to know of Smile Twin e-Learning Programme. She joined the STeP course.
After completing her course, she got placed as a teacher cum computer
operator in a private English medium school in Balakati district of
Orissa. Today she feels happy for being able to support her family financially.
