Education Transforming Lives
Pinki Sahoo, a ten year old student of Class V, aspires to become a teacher or a doctor. Hailing from a nondescript village of Rae Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, gardener Lek Kumar Sahoo could barely provide enough food to his daughter with a monthly income of Rs.3500 only. Education was unimaginable for Pinky. But because of her great zeal and determination, and the support she got from Smile Foundation’s Mission Education centre Nai Disha Educational and Cultural Society, Pinky has carved a niche for herself.
According to her teacher, Pinki is very smart, good at studies and also excels in extra-curricular activities. She has great interest in dance and theatre and has also undergone a month’s training from the National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi.
At a very young age, Pinki has set an example for others to follow, and has proved that education is the path to tread - no matter the hardships. It is the power which can transform lives.
