Moti
Ram Mahto, is a 15 year old boy and lives with his family
in Jagra Paika, a small village in the Angara district of
Jharkhand. The area has a total population of over 1lac.
Majority of the people work here as casual labourers, rickshaw
pullers, small shopkeepers, etc. Diseases like malaria,
diarrhoea, tuberculosis and asthma are very common in this
area.
Moti Ram’s family
is a very poor one and depends totally on agriculture. Moti
Ram had to drop out of school in the eighth grade so that
he would be able to help his family in earning a livelihood.
He had first visited the Smile on Wheel, suffering from
very high fever, headache and loose motions for 3 days.
After proper test were conducted on him, the doctor diagnosed
that he was suffering from malaria and immediately put him
on medication. He was advised to be on complete bed rest
and was also given a diet chart to follow. He visited the
Smile on Wheels three more times and was completely treated.
He and his family members now regularly visit the Smile
on Wheels. |
