Md. Rafique Yusuf Kundiva, is an inhabitant of Haji Sattarni Chali Idgah in Ahmedabad. 5000 people live in this community which consists of 1500 migrant labour workers. The area has very unhygienic living conditions; heaps of dirt is found everywhere and water accumulation can be seen everywhere, as a result of which the area has a lot of mosquitoes; there is no provision of clean drinking water and there are common toilets which are very dirty and unhygienic. Majority of the people living in this community suffer from dysentery, malaria, skin diseases and arthritis.

Md. Rafique lives with his wife, two sons and three daughters. The family is a very poor one and is dependent entirely on the daily wages earned by Rafique’s wife.

Rafique visited Smile on Wheels complaining of some skin disease that caused so much in his body that he could not even walk properly and had been bed-ridden for some time now. He mentioned that he had visited the govt. hospital and other private clinics before this, but did not get any relief from the treatment there.

The Smile on Wheels doctor diagnosed Rafique suffering from psoriasis – a critical skin disease, and prescribed skin ointments and physical exercises which could be done on the bed itself. Along with this he was given a diet chart to follow and was restricted from eating certain things. He was also asked to visit the Smile on Wheels regularly according to the roster of the unit’s for the area.

Rafique has already started recovering steadily. His aliment has been treated upto 75% and appreciates this mobile hospital initiative of Smile Foundation.
