Tim Unwin, Professor of
Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London, took
a session on the effective usage of Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) for development process in a developing
country such as India.
Professor Unwin is also
holding UNESCO chair of ICT for development and also heads
the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. As part of the
training session, staff of Smile Foundation particularly
from programming team got to explore the use of ICT in context
with social development that proved to be a great learning
in the respective work areas.
Professor Unwin also showed
interest in Smile Twin e-learning programme (STeP) and later
he suggested one of his research scholars to study STeP
and conduct his research on the same. In response to the
session held Smile Foundation will soon become a member
of a collective called ICT4D which will certainly help the
Foundation to form alliances with international agencies
working in the area of ICT for Development.
