Smile Foundation organized multidisciplinary
health check-up camp under its ‘Health with Smile’
programme at Hindmotors in Nandan Kanan Boys Sporting
Club in Kolkata.
HINDALCO Industries Limited, a flagship
company of the Aditya Birla Group, sponsored the health
camp, which benefited more than 200 underprivileged
children and women from the suburb of Kolkata.
This was the second of a series of
‘Health with Smile’ camps sponsored by HINDALCO.
The camp is first of its kind in the locality in which,
doctors from four leading hospitals of Kolkata namely
Hospital of HINDALCO Industries Ltd., Apollo Hospital,
Peerless Hospital and Bhagirathi Neotia Child Care Centre
volunteered to offer their services.
The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Pinaki
Dhamali, Chairman - Uttarpara Municipality, Kolkata.
Ms. Sumita Chakraborty, Ward Councillor Uttarpara Municipality,
Mr. Kalipada Chakraborty, President Boys Sporting Club,
Dr. Soumava Gupta from Apollo Hospital, Kolkata, Dr.
Saikat Ghosh, Dr. Anjana Mukherjee from Peerless
Hospital and Mr. Partho Roy from Smile Foundation Kolkata were other eminent guests and participants
present on the occasion.
Mr. Partho Roy headed the Smile Kolkata team in organising this novel initiative.
Special pathological tests were conducted
for women. Around 200 children and women were screened
and diagnosed for various ailments and medicines prescribed
to them free of cost. Medicines for common ailments
and general restoratives like Iron and Folic Acid Tablets,
Vitamin tablets and syrup were also distributed to the
beneficiaries.

News Channel supported the camp through media announcement
and coverage.
Women from the suburbs of Uttarpara Municipality were privileged to access one of their basic rights – The right to health on International Women’s Day, on March 8, 2008.
An ideal way to commemorate the occasion!
Hindalco, with the success of this joint endeavour, is planning a series of such initiatives in future too.
