Swabhiman Programme goes National

                   Haryana being the second state after Delhi

Swabhiman, meaning self respect in Hindi, is a programme from Smile Foundation focusing on health and empowerment of the girl child. The intervention, initiated in August 2005, now reaches out to about 80, 000 population in Delhi. 

After the success of the girl child development programme in Delhi, Smile is taking the same at the national level.

The second intervention under Swabhiman’s national initiative has been launched in Haryana state where Smile found the urgency of such an endeavour.

As part of launching of Swabhiman as a national programme, Smile has intiated a pilot project on ‘Female Feticide and Safe Motherhood’ in the rural belt of Faridabad district.

Able Hospital Swabhiman Women Empowerment

Project Implementation Strategy

Able Charities Foundation is the implementing partner for Swabhiman in Haryana. The project office will be at village Behrola, Tehsil Palwal, District Faridabad which is 65 km from Delhi.

The project will have a static hospital [Able Charitable Hospital] along with an equipped mobile health van offering health services to the needy girls and women in the outreach.

The project covers 30 Villages, reaching out to a target population of 60, 000 in the blocks of Palwal and Hodal.

The intervention aims to empower adolescent girls and women through required Life Skills Education and awareness creation on gender related issues and discriminations including female foeticide and infanticide; backed by cafeteria of women and child health services (to meet further generated demand for such services).

Mobile Health Services

A Mobile Health Van, with a team of 5 nurses and doctors, has been added to this intervention. It provides the following services:                    

•        Preventive - immunization, Night Blindness (Vit-A Prophylaxis), Breast feeding and weaning practices etc.

•        Promotive- safe drinking water; hygiene and sanitation; supplementary feeding; ORS; health, hygiene and nutrition education, FP services (Condom, oral pills, IUD insertion)

•        Curative- diagnosis and treatment of common ailments, growth monitoring, medicines distribution, referral to ABLE Hospital and other Government facilities.

Kakralli, Meghpur, Lalwa, Raipur, Gailpur, Karna, Rajpura, Ratipur, Jodhur, Tikri Brahman, Rehrana, Chirawala, Dholagarh, Khusropur, Asawta,

Lohigarh, Kithwari, Ranijha, Hosangabad, Chhaju Nagar, Akbarpur Dakora, Nangal Brahmani, Sailothi, Atohan, Bahrola, Phulwari and Tumasra.
