GAIL
(India) Limited, a Navratna PSU and India's flagship Natural
Gas company has supported the third mobile health care unit for
Delhi NCR.
This unit targets approximately 1.5 lac people in urban slums of
Delhi. It brings affordable, integrated and clinically advanced,
quality healthcare services within the reach of these marginalized
people. The health van enables prevention, diagnosis, as well as
treatment services.
Smile on Wheels takes well-equipped mobile
vans along with specialized doctors, nurses and medicines to villages
and slums where there are no government health care facilities or
where the available services are inadequate. Each van is stationed
in an urban centre usually with a static hospital that acts like
a referral centre and covers the vicinity of around 25 kms visiting
2-3 villages every day.
GAIL has been engaged in planned community
and social benefit programmes, carried out under the Special Component
Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) since 1992. Subsequently in
2002, a comprehensive CSR policy was adopted by the Board, wherein
1% of PAT was allocated as annual CSR budget. CSR programmes are
taken up at almost 36 work centers and Zonal offices located across
the country, focusing at development and empowerment of the people
belonging to socially, economically and under-privileged segment
of the society, especially in the neighborhood of their operational
projects.
GAIL’s investment in Health Care programmes has made a significant
impact in terms of providing better healthcare to the under-privileged
section of the society. Some of the important CSR initiatives taken
under this head include provision of ambulances, organizing medical
camps, providing wide range of medical equipments like TMT machine,
operating microscope, ECG machines, haemodialysis machine, X-Ray
machine etc, to various hospitals..
