FolEarth Day’ is being celebrated
all over. But how many of us may are aware of it or even
with the concept of preserving our Mother Earth, her beauty
and resources for a better quality of life?
Children from Smile Foundation projects in Kolkata, themselves
belonging to underprivileged communities, took to the
street for sensitizing their elder citizens.
The programme started with a walk by SMILE children, which
was joined by socially conscious citizens in huge numbers.
SMILE children interacted enthusiastically with everybody
on basic awareness on environment issues. The children
asked questions and shared views on the issues with all
shop-keepers, pedestrians and even road side vendors.
This was followed by an interactive awareness session
on ‘Environment and its effect on Health’
to consolidate the experiences gathered by these children
in their short interactions.
The programme ended with children’s decision to
–
•Keep the environment clean and beautiful.
• Throw garbage in proper places – in garbage
bins and dustbins.
• Save every drop of water
• Protest against cutting of trees and exploitation
of ponds and other water bodies
• Keep your self clean
• Wash hands before taking food
Calcutta
