About the Project

The project is located in Bhaktarahally at Sidlaghatta taluk in Chikkaballapur Dist. of Karnataka state. The place is 60 km away from the state capital Bangalore. The school caters to children of seven surrounding villages. The other villages are Kakachokkandahally, Thotalanganahally, Mugiladapi, Thadur, Basavapatna, Maanamachanahally. Nagamangala and Thotalinganahally, situated within a radius of five kilometres.

Major focus of the intervention will be on remedial education, books & stationery, uniforms, shoes & socks, transportation, and exam fees.

Around 100 deserving children belonging to the poorest of families will be covered under the project. The children are between 3 and 16 years of age.

The school is located in a typical rural set-up in the village of Bhaktarahally having a population of approximately four thousand. There is neither PHC nor a bank in the village. For medical aid the villagers have to go to a PHC which is two miles away from the village. The main occupation of the villagers is Agriculture, sericulture and milk production. There is no other school in the locality except BMV.

Children educationOnly 40 per cent villagers are literate across the eight villages, where BMV is the only school.

Free mid-day meal programme is going on with support from the Govt. of Karnataka.

About the Partner

BMV Education trust was founded and registered in the year 1986 to give better education to the rural boys and girls from eight surrounding villages of Bhaktarahally.

The school now has a two storied building accommodating 14 classrooms and an office room. It has at present 415 children and seven teachers. The village panchayat donated the land and the building came up with support from the Government of Karnataka as well as individual donors.
