Mission Education
Many new grassroots organisations like Family of Disabled, New Delhi, and Shikhar Yuva Manch and Lok Sanskriti Vikas Manch, Chhatisgarh have joined hands with Smile Foundation for the Mission Education project.

Jindal Stainless Limited has tied up with the Foundation for the Mission Education Jajpur project, which will initiate the setting up of Non- Formal Educational (NFE) centres and adoption of existing government schools in 16 select villages of Jajpur district in Orissa. The emphasis is on maximum enrolment of girl children to address the problem of gender disparity in the region.

Caterpillar Foundation has also tied up with Smile Foundation for yet another education project in Thiruvallur, Hosur & Kishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. To enhance quality education in Thiruvallur, special needs of 13 selected schools will be taken care of. The focus is on under-privileged children studying in government schools.  


Smile Twin e-Learning Programme

In addition to a course in basic computers and spoken English, the Smile Twin e–Learning Programme will soon have a course for adolescents interested in the BPO sector. Salient Technologies is working on the curriculum. At present, there are a total of 1025 students in the Smile Twin e–Learning Programme.

In the last quarter, 127 STeP students were employed in leading national and multinational companies. 



Child For Child Programme
Several events and workshops were organised in Bangalore, Nagpur, Pune, Kolkata, Ajmer to sensitise students of reputed schools about the plight of less privileged children. The number of children reached out through the Child For Child programme has now gone up to about 700,000.

 

Action For Children

Geetanjali Deboshray Ashram, Hyderabad joined Smile Foundation for the KidsXL programme, which brings students of both privileged and underprivileged school under one platform. Likewise, 14 local actions in the form of events and workshops were conducted by the Foundation in collaboration with its partner grassroots NGOs across the country.  



Smile on Wheels

Smile on Wheels, the national level mobile hospital programme from Smile Foundation will soon reach the urban poor in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, plans are afoot to launch SoWs in Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore, Indore. 


Swabhiman
Swabhiman, the health and empowerment programme for girl child and women got immense support from the mass media. The Finnish Broadcasting Corporation did a story on Smile Foundation’s initiative in bringing a check on increase in population in the urban slums of New Delhi and especially in Shri Ram J. J. camp, a Swabhiman intervention area.


Technology
Smile Foundation is working towards updating its technology for effective execution of the development projects at the grassroots level and quick decision-making.

A video-conferencing system will soon be in place connecting all the offices of the Foundation across the country.
