He had been suffering from unbearable pain since two years. A resident of village Chitaudi in Bhilwara district, 55 year old Gyanchand Praksh (name changed) relived from a life threatening brain tumour of one kilogram in the free sixth Annual Mega Health Camp organised by Smile Foundation in association with Jain Samaj Women Wing in village Shahpura of Bhilwara district in Rajasthan. The mobile surgical unit of Department of Health, Government of Rajasthan was also an associate in the Mega Health Camp. This is just one but people in large volumes derived benefit from ten days long annual Mega Health Camp organised from September 7 – 17, 2008. The multi disciplinary health camp had a make-shift 500 bed hospital set up for underprivileged rural population from 50 villages. The camp provided free diagnosis, medicines, food, accommodation and surgical operations to more than 5500 villagers. A team of 40 specialist doctors along with 120 paramedical staff from Surgery, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Medicine, E.N.T., Anaesthesia, Radiology, Paediatrics, and Pathology provided voluntary services in the noble initiative of Smile Foundation.
Approximately 6500 people made it for OPD check up, besides 1000 people availing free but specialized surgery facilities. Approximately 9000 people are benefited from much awaited Health Camp in ten days this year. Patients were served food, medicines, lodging, daily usage items etc all free of cost. A fleet of 200 volunteers across India was present in the Mega Health Camp to care take patients and attend to their needs for 24 hours a day. 520 people underwent surgical operations in diseases like Hernia, Eye Disorders, Allergies, Arthritis, Communicable Diseases, ENT, Gynae Diseases, Oral Care, Kidney and Gall Bladder stones, Ureteric stones, Moles, Fibroid (tumours), Urinary Infection. Appendicitis, Thyroid and Sexually Transmitted Diseases etc. The annual health camp focuses on providing integrated
health care services (preventive, curative and referral) including investigative
and surgical interventions for the benefit of rural poor with special
focus on children and women.
The cumulative number of beneficiaries accorded is 25,000.
The camp has been receiving whopping response from the villagers and
local authorities with thousands of underprivileged people from surrounding
villages participating in the camp. |
